Bernie has always had a passion for movement and education and believes that wellness is our most important possession. A young passion for gymnastics found her in the coaching arena from the age of 15. Her passion was further developed with a degree in Education and work as a PDHPE teacher. While her young family (four children) were growing up she continued to work as a coach at the NSW Academy of Gymnastics. It was her motivation to improve gymnastic performance and decrease injury that led her to complete a diploma in Professional Pilates with Polestar in 2011. Vigour Pilates opened the same year with the goal to educate and offer the most personal Pilates experience around.
She loves the genius of the human body! The way it works harmoniously to breathe, heal, move and reach its potential. She believes that a balanced system is like an orchestra playing all their individual parts in harmony and that injury occurs when the body is out of balance; some parts are playing too loudly, or the strings are being pulled too tight. Her goal in the studio is to figure out each client’s unique road map, make those parts more harmonious and create change. She inspires good posture and breathing and aims to improve function through progressive overload, not only for Pilates but for everyday life. She teaches children to lift their gaze from technology and sit and stand tall, the elderly to improve balance, strength and confidence, athletes to improve performance and prevent injury and the injured to rehabilitate and strengthen. The magic is in the client’s journey and discovery of a new way to move with fluidity and ease.
Her sense of positivity and pursuit of better movement has awarded Vigour Pilates five nominations for Business of the Year (2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021) and winner of most outstanding “Health Improvement Service” 2020. Bernie has also been a finalist for Business Person of the Year (2018, 2020, 2022 and 2023).
She is a level 3 OOV educator (the first in the Sutherland Shire).
In 2020 she completed a Diploma in Slings Myofascia Training with “art of motion” making her the only SMT Practitioner in the Shire!
Bernie uses the latest world research on Fascial connectivity patterns in the body to assist in the choice of appropriate movement tasks to help alignment, balance, ease, and finesse. It is a holistic approach based on the current work of Thomas Myers (Anatomy Trains) and Karin Gurtner (“art of motion” and developer of Slings Myofascial Training). Its aims are to find structural integrity throughout the body, and appropriate myofascial load to improve this integrity (tensegrity) and core support to promote an easeful uprightness.
Bernie is fascinated with the latest research findings and importance of the connective tissue (fascial system) of the body and how myofascial adhesions can disrupt force transmission leading to pain and injury. She has continued to educate in this area and has just completed a Certification in “Body Reading and Movement Strategies” with “art of motion”.
Bernie aims to educate and empower clients to reawaken blind sports in the myofascial architecture to improve force transmission and create a more structurally sound balanced body. Assessment and a keen eye allow her to adjust programing looking at the whole picture and not just at the localized problem areas. The “why” in the body puzzle is what she loves to tease out.
In 2021 she also created “Vigour Voice”. A collection of thoughts, cues, clues, and wellness tips that she hopes will encourage, stimulate, enlighten, facilitate curiosity, and hopefully awaken the body, mind, and spirit for a more fulfilling life. One filled with an easeful breath, confidence in movement and zest for life!

I trained as a gymnast from the age of two at the NSW Academy of Gymnastics. I then went on to train at AcroGym from the age of eight in Acrobatic Gymnastics. I competed for many years as an Acrobat at both State and National levels. I have worked as an Acrobatics coach since I was fourteen at AcroGym.
Since completing my HSC in 2019, I have studied Group Fitness and Personal training through TAFE NSW and a Diploma of Professional Pilates instruction through Pilates International Training Centre.
I instantly fell in love with Pilates and knew that this was the path for me so I enrolled in the Diploma of Professional Pilates instruction. I love the way Pilates make me feel! Both the physical and mental benefits are amazing!
When I’m not doing Pilates, I am usually doing handstands, going to the beach, wakeboarding, AcroYoga or hanging out with friends.
Jaclyn Griffin
Vigour Pilates Practitioner
• Bachelor of Biomedical Science in Forensic Biology
• Diploma in Health Science (Pathology Techniques)
• Diploma Professional Pilates (Polestar Pilates) 2020
• Certificate IV in Matwork Instruction (Polestar Pilates)
• PAA Member
• OOV Level 3 Certified Practitioner 2021
• Spinefitter Accredited (Alexander Bohlander)
• Slings Essentials (art of motion)
Jaclyn has had a long-time love of Pilates, being first introduced back in the year 2000 by her Physiotherapist at the time.
Not so keen on the usual forms of exercise but a lover of gadgetry, she was immediately drawn to the studio equipment and, after feeling the massive benefits in her own body, has been hooked ever since.
She has always been in healthcare, but felt the pull to start something with a more personal connection. So, after being a keen enthusiast for so long, in 2017 Jaclyn decided to take the plunge and started her Certificate IV in Matwork Pilates Instruction. A daunting prospect having never even done a single mat Pilates class in her life! She loved The Method so much, that she rolled straight into the Diploma of Studio Pilates instruction.
Jaclyn loves the precision and the mental challenge that comes with even the most seemingly basic of Pilates exercises. The tiniest tweak can change an exercise from “it’s okay” to “wow, that’s tough!”
When she isn’t in the studio she enjoys lifting heavy weights with her partner, cooking, lazy lunches and listening to True Crime/Comedy/Pilates podcasts. She is always on the hunt for new cafés/restaurants and podcasts – so when you see her, give her a recommendation!
Lana Worthington
Vigour Pilates Practitioner (cover)
• Diploma Professional Pilates (Polestar Pilates) 2014
• Certificate IV in Matwork Instruction (Polestar Pilates) 2014
• PAA Member
Lana spent her early 20’s backpacking around Europe, working in hospitality with no regard for ‘proper manual handling’ nor the niggling lower back pain that was becoming all so familiar to her. It wasn’t until she returned to Australia and replaced her nomadic backpacking ways with routine health and boot camp but one day – mid burpee – she just didn’t get back up! She had herniated one disc and bulged a few others in the process.
Her chronic pain led her to discussions with a neurosurgeon and the possibility of a discectomy at the age of 26. Her neurosurgeon sent her away for 6 weeks of intensive physiotherapy and swimming and it was actually her physio who suggested Pilates. Two sessions a week coupled with regular swims found her pain free in a matter of months and her passion for Pilates was born.
She welcomingly accepted Pilates was to be a part of her regular health maintenance program and always would be. Many years down the track her passion for Pilates continued and with her people management and training background, she started her journey to becoming an instructor, obtaining her Mat class qualification in 2014 followed by her full Studio Diploma qualification.
Lana loves teaching Pilates because she gets to help people feel better. She loves the challenges each individual brings to class and witnessing their ‘break through’ moments!
